Hi today I am doing SLJ this one is called the midnight zone how this works is there is a question to answer and I explain it.
The answer is 25 adults and 20 kids and you work it out like 400 divided 25 for the adults and 10X10 for kids and then you have your answers.

ReplyDeleteWell done for finishing another SLJ related activity, 'The Midnight Zone', and for attempting to work out this maths problem. This is a tricky one, the maths question is asking how many adults and children can lift the one 500kg Colossal Squid. So we need to try and figure out how many adults and how many children can lift this one squid.
We can see that 500 is a round number (lucky us!)— remember how the average kid can lift about 10kg? Let's multiply that by 10 and see what we get: 10 x 10 = 100. If we do this, then we can take that number out of the 500kg Colossal Squid, so the kids are basically carrying a couple of tentacles each (gross): 500 - 100 = 400kg. Okay, last step— now (as you've tried to do above in your answer), we divide 400 by 25, as this is the amount that the average adult can carry, and what do we get?
